EMERGING SCIENTISTS NETWORK
Founder & President
Melbourne, Australia
The Emerging Scientists Network (ESN) is a youth-led initiative designed to connect, support, and empower early-career scientists. Founded to address the gap between academic study and real-world opportunities, ESN provides a platform for students and graduates to build skills, share ideas, and access pathways into science careers. ESN also promotes inclusivity and community, creating a supportive environment where members can grow their confidence, networks, and professional identity.
Who is an Emerging Scientist?
Someone who is instinctively curious, demonstrates a commitment to education and networking, and has a passion for scientific discovery. They are undergraduates, recent graduates, and budding professionals who actively engage in their chosen field and/or seek to expand their knowledge further and contribute their unique perspectives. They are motivated to connect with peers across different educational levels and backgrounds, embracing and promoting a diverse array of science career pathways. These individuals represent the future of scientific exploration and collaboration.

Essential Gaps:
Soft Professional Skills: Upskill emerging scientists with the necessary skills required to have a successful career after their studies (i.e. how to leverage networking, science communication, mentorship, grant writing etc).
Job exposure: Expose emerging scientists to a wide range of careers beyond academic research-based roles by connecting them with employers from varying industries and advise them on which roles are in demand and on the rise.
Friends/Community: Create a fun and inclusive space for students to network across different universities and disciplines, for online students to connect in person and for recent graduates to remain engaged in community groups.
